A semi-analytical method is used to study the effects of the multi vibration absorbers on the nonlinear functionally graded (FG) Euler-Bernoulli beam subjected to periodic load. The material properties of the beam are assumed to be continuously graded in the thickness direction. The governing equations of functionally graded beam are obtained based on the Hamilton's principle and these equation...

The present work studies the performance of linear and nonlinear dynamic vibration absorbers mounted on Euler–Bernoulli beams subjected to moving loads. Absorbers used in this work consist of one mass, two springs and one linear damper. The springs may be considered either linear or non-linear. The objective is to compare the performance of these absorbers with classical dynamic and nonlin...

Conceptual innovation in mechanical engineering design has been extremely challenging compared to the wide applications of automated design systems in digital circuits. This paper presents an automated methodology for open-ended synthesis of mechanical vibration absorbers based on genetic programming (GP) and bond graphs (GPBG). It is shown that our automated design system can automatically evo...

Numerical optimisations were conducted to reduce the noise levels inside the payload bay of a rocket by using vibration and acoustic absorbers attached to the fairing walls. The vibration absorbers act in both translational and rotational axes. The acoustic absorbers were modelled as simplified Helmholtz resonators. A Finite Element model of the vibro-acoustic system was created in ANSYS and th...

Linear vibration absorbers are a valuable tool used to suppress vibrations due to harmonic excitation in structural systems. Limited evaluation of the performance of nonlinear vibration absorbers for nonlinear structures exists in the current literature. The state of the art is extended in this work to vibration absorbers in their three major physical implementations: the mechanical vibration a...

For investigating the detail effects of the vibration absorbers in the cavity of the double-layer wall (DLW), a vibro-acoustic numerical model was developed and the behavior of the system was simulated by the finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD method). By comparing the results for various cases, the mechanism of the vibration absorber in the DLW and the effects of the location side and ...

This paper presents a numerical model for the calculation of the transmission loss of a panel with an array of tuned vibration absorbers attached. The transmission loss of the panel is calculated for the case of the bare panel, with tuned vibration absorbers attached, and equivalent blocking masses. The theoretical predictions of transmission loss are compared with experimental measurements.

Systems that exhibit flexible dynamics are susceptible to vibration caused by changes in the reference command and from external disturbances. Feedback control is an obvious choice to deal with these vibrations, but in many cases, it is insufficient or difficult to implement. Input shaping does not deal with vibration excited by external disturbances; however it has proven beneficial for reduci...

Tuned vibration neutralisers and absorbers provide an effective method of attenuating tonal vibration within a structure. If the frequency of the tonal vibration alters, then an adaptive tuned vibration neutraliser or absorber can be utilised to track and adapt to changes in the frequency of the source vibration. This paper provides an overview of some of the issues associated with the developm...
